International Astronautical Congress
Adelaide Convention Centre
25 to 29 September 2017
An International Astronautical Federation event, hosted by the Space Industry Association of Australia, the International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide occupied the full 20,000 square metres of the Adelaide Convention Centre with up to 20 technical sessions running in parallel. In addition to the Conference, IAC 2017 featured a 6,000 square metre public exhibition which attracted 3,500 visitors.
The business event had a strong focus on educating the next generation. Beyond programs at the Museum and the Library, several astronauts visited selected schools across the week, and more than 700 local primary school students participated in a carefully designed educational experience which involved coding a small robot.
The Federal Government announced a national space agency at IAC 2017 to be headquartered in Adelaide. This spurred a substantive local industry with over 100 space organisations now active in the state.
